Often we are asked how our publishing and reproduction program started. In an early Annual Report, the Trustees of the Museum wrote:

"There is one part of the business of a museum which has been recognized of late, namely, the publication of reproductions or copies of its exhibits and artifacts, whether for exchange with other museums or of sale to the public. This is obviously an important duty, and affords a powerful means of imparting instruction."

In keeping with this directive, the Museum has established this catalogue, which like the Museum itself, is unique, The objects contained in the catalogue are, with few exceptions, produced by and for the Museum only, and are made under its direct and careful supervision. The quality of Museum reproduction and adaptations is an overriding concern. Many years in not an uncommon span for the development of a single object, and the satisfaction of friends and members of the Museum who purchase from us is unconditionally guaranteed.
